TRANS — In-Camera Transitions

1. Purpose & Functional Role

[TRANS] commands motivated, continuous in-camera transitions between shots, setups, or locations without breaking the unbroken take aesthetic.

2. Formatting & Transition Types

  • Header / Tag: [TRANS] on its own Sub-State in the Macro-State chain.
  • Key Transition Types:
    • Match-on-Action: A physical motion in Shot A seamlessly finishes in Shot B.
    • Whip Pan: Fast motion blur horizontally bridging two locations.
    • Aperture Push-Through: Camera pushes through a dark opening (keyhole, window, door crack) to reveal a new space.
    • Light Dip / Shadow Sweep: A shadow wipes the lens to motivate a lighting or scene transition.

3. Example Syntax

  • [TRANS] Match-on-action whip pan to LOC02
  • [TRANS] Rapid tracking push through doorway into kitchen
  • [TRANS] Camera tilts upward into blinding sunbeam, dissolving into white daylight

4. Placement in Macro-States

Place [TRANS] between the departing action and the arriving setup: [CAM 01] MS -> [ACT] Evan throws a hard right cross -> [TRANS] Match-on-action cut -> [CAM 02] CU -> [ACT] Felix ducks beneath the blow
